Some people develop a habit known as tongue thrusting where the tongue pushes against the front teeth (rather than the roof of the mouth). The front teeth may move over time, leading to gaps.

Jaw and teeth size mismatch

An unbalanced jaw and teeth can lead to gaps or teeth overlapping.
